GUITARIST CHRISTER ESPEVOLL RETURNS TO THE FOLD<\/strong>

EXTOL<\/strong>, the pioneering\u00a0Norwegian\u00a0death metal band once celebrated by\u00a0The Wall Street Journal<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0for “roaring, blizzardlike guitar shredding, frantic drumming, startling time-signature changes, and gear-stripping growls,” are back \u2014 and in a big way.The band has shared not one but two brand new singles.It’s the first new music from Extol\u00a0in a decade and it’s a welcome return, which finds\u00a0Christer Espevoll<\/strong>\u00a0back in the ranks.Today, fans can rejoice at the forward-thinking sounds of\u00a0“Labyrinth of Ill”<\/strong>and “Exigency<\/strong>.” \u00a0

Listen\u00a0here<\/a>.The songs set the table for Extol’s\u00a0first live appearances since 2014\u00a0and a pre-cursor to what’s next \u2014 expect more music.Each of the members \u2014 guitarist\u00a0Ole B\u00f8rud<\/strong>, vocalist\u00a0Peter\u00a0Espevoll<\/strong>, aforementioned guitarist\u00a0Christer Espevoll<\/strong>,\u00a0and drummer\u00a0David Husvik\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 offered their unique insight into the new material.

“The new songs have that perfect blend of hooks, quirks,\u00a0and melody, coupled with the distinct flavor of a lineup featuring David, Peter, Christer,\u00a0and yours truly. And top that off with an excellent mix from Jens Bogren. I’m very happy,” says\u00a0B\u00f8rud.

Peter Espevoll shares the sentiments, saying “I\u00a0can’t believe it’s been a decade since we released the latest Extol album. I’m really stoked about the fact that Christer is on board again! It kind of feels like the good old days!””The way we wrote ‘Labyrinth of Ill’\u00a0took me back to the good old days,” says Christer Espevoll.\u00a0“It has the distinct impression of all members baked into a recognizably unique Extol cookie:\u00a0Brutal riffing and tight, yet floating rhythmic section, meeting pleasant melodies, and atypical metal harmonies, topped off with a slightly\u00a0outside<\/em>\u00a0guitar solo that leaves you wanting more, all in classic\u00a0 Extol fashion. I can’t\u00a0wait to continue this new Extol chapter!”

“‘Labyrinth of Ill’ has definitely renewed my faith in Extol and our ability to play rock music once again,” shares Husvik. “Who doesn’t wanna go to church when they hear the ‘Patience’\u00a0passages play ping pong with Ole’s guitar solo? Brutal, but at the same time disturbingly cozy.”
