The band was active from 1972 until their&nbsp;<em>Farewell<\/em>&nbsp;in 2005, with a musical legacy spanning decades, made up of many band members through the years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately for fans, two bands still tour occasionally, celebrating Petra\u2019s music. One would be Classic Petra (Revival, Revisited), fronted by early 80\u2019s singer Greg X. Volz, and the second band still goes by the name Petra, fronted by former Head East singer John Schlitt. For the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary tour Petra is John Schlitt on vocals, Bob Hartman (only original member) on guitar, John Lawry on keys, Greg Bailey on bass and cello, and Cristian Borneo on drums. This show was held at the Junction Center at WJTL radio headquarters in Mannheim, PA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Schlitt opened the show with \u201cWhole World,\u201d from his first album with the band-&nbsp;<em>Back to the Street&nbsp;<\/em>from 1986.Then the band played 90\u2019s hits \u201dYou\u2019re in the Right Place\u201d and \u201cDance,\u201d before returning to 1988\u2019s&nbsp;<em>On Fire<\/em>&nbsp;with \u201cCounsel of the Holy.\u201d \u201cJust Reach Out\u201d followed, and then Schlitt pondered how to play all the songs that fans might hope to hear on such an anniversary. We didn\u2019t have to wait long for the answer as Petra launched into a rock medley featuring portions of \u201cSight Unseen,\u201d \u201cIt Is Finished,\u201d \u201cThink Twice,\u201d \u201cI Am On the Rock,\u201d \u201cMidnight Oil,\u201d \u201cMinefield,\u201d and \u201cThis Means War!,\u201d before returning to \u201cIt Is Finished.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Lawry played a keyboard solo, incorporating \u201cJesus Loves You\u201d from&nbsp;<em>Captured In Time and Space<\/em>&nbsp;and a keytar solo which led to a Cristian Borneo drum solo. With the whole band back on stage, Petra launched into \u201cCreed,\u201d from&nbsp;<em>Beyond Belief<\/em>, \u201cJudas\u2019 Kiss\u201d from 1982\u2019s&nbsp;<em>More Power To Ya<\/em> (minus the backmasking), and then went all the way back to the band\u2019s 1974 debut album with Bob Hartman singing the bluegrass song \u201cLucas McGraw\u201d and then explaining that the band used it as an icebreaker back in the early days when many in the church were convinced that rock music was of the devil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the band performed a mellow medley, with Greg Bailey on cello, made up of \u201cRose Colored Stained Glass Windows,\u201d \u201cRoad to Zion,\u201d \u201cMore Power To Ya,\u201d \u201cNo Doubt,\u201d \u201cColouring Song,\u201d and \u201cLove.\u201d The band then revisited their \u201cfinal\u201d album title track \u201cJekyll and Hyde,\u201d played \u201cBeyond Belief\u201d and Bob Hartman did a guitar solo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the band closed the show with a brief praise medley consisting of \u201cLord I Lift Your Name On High,\u201d \u201cSomebody\u2019s Gonna Praise His Name,\u201d and \u201cHallelujah Chorus\u201d from Handel\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Messiah<\/em>. The prevalence of modern rock worship in most church congregations today was influenced heavily by Petra\u2019s pair of <em>Petra Praise<\/em> albums.&nbsp;Neither the band nor the fans were ready to call it a night yet, so Petra rocked the house one last time with \u201cHe Came, He Saw, He Conquered\u201d from&nbsp;<em>This Means War!&nbsp;<\/em>Just like the rock fortress Petra in Jordan where the band&#8217;s name is drawn from, the band&#8217;s influence will remain intact for generations to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PETRA 50th&nbsp;Anniversary Tour
