{"id":11921,"date":"2024-08-06T19:52:09","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T23:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/?p=11921"},"modified":"2024-08-06T21:25:40","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T01:25:40","slug":"transcendent-awaken","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/06\/transcendent-awaken\/","title":{"rendered":"TRANSCENDENT: Awaken"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Heavy, Progressive Power Groove Gospel Metal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Essentially a two-musician project, Transcendent\u2019s <em>Awaken<\/em> represents an amalgam of dark heavy prog\/power and the groove metal of the 1990\u2019s. This molten mix likely stems from David Ashe\u2019s background playing in \u201890\u2019s bands like Last Parable, as well as his stated interests in prog metal giants Dream Theater. Western North Carolina (Hendersonville\/Asheville) certainly isn\u2019t known for heavy metal, but Ashe makes it apparent he\u2019s metal through and through as the music here is heavy, rhythmically driven with a plethora of guitar edge and the words are metal in their boldness of message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comparisons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paul Bowman is the vocalist here, his style and tone not unlike David Taylor, the vocalist of another underground metal band from the \u201890\u2019s Jacobs Dream. He even sounds, at other times, like Chaz Bond, the other singer for that unique power metal band. And speaking of Jacobs Dream, Transcendent sounds like a combination of Jacobs Dream and <a href=\"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/index.php\/2021\/09\/30\/biogenesis-rise-of-the-phoenix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BioGenesis<\/a> \u2026 and for that matter, <a href=\"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/11\/vultures-gathering-the-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vultures Gathering<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TRANSCENDENT - FREE YOUR SOUL\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ANTJ5HxZxag?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Awaken<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Incidentally, finding a quality recording studio and producer\/mixer is tough for new bands, but I think Transcendent have done a decent job on their debut in that regard. The sound is mostly balanced with not shrill treble or excessive bass. That kick drum sound may just be a bit too precise for fans of the more organic acoustic sound of drums, but fans of Ulrich\u2019s <em>And Justice for All<\/em>\u2026 kick sound will love the punch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nevertheless, the songs on <em>Awaken<\/em> are guitar-driven, the sound dialed in to perfection, clean (without much distortion) and both the rhythms and the solos are very good to excellent. The lyrics are solidly in the evangelical metal camp and Bowman delivers them with conviction, and while some may not prefer his vocal style (his lower range sounds better than the higher octave) he delivers the words with discernible clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Talent<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roxxrecords.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roxx<\/a> remains committed to cultivating new talent, and in doing so there will invariably be risks taken. While I am not going to predict Transcendent\u2019s future, <em>Awaken<\/em> is a promising debut. Time will tell if they can cultivate their sound and style into something uniquely their own \u2013 an increasingly difficult task for rock\/metal artists \u2013 but its apparent that David Ashe is a talented musician with a lot of gas left in his creative tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Track Listing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1.
