Richmond, Virginia-based metal band Shovelhead A.D.<\/strong> is ramping up anticipation for their upcoming second album, set for release on December 28, with the drop of their hard-hitting single Choke on Dopesmoke<\/em>. Available now on streaming platforms<\/a>, this latest track takes a raw, unflinching look at addiction, telling the story of a life spiraling into ruin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tight and heavy, Choke on Dopesmoke<\/em> hits with a blend of early Pantera\u2019s gritty aggression and the modern edge of crossover thrash like Power Trip and Enforced. Fans of Christian metal stalwarts like Sacrament and Believer will likely find a lot to dig here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drummer Shelby Brown shared that while the band members are Christians, Shovelhead A.D<\/strong>. has chosen not to label themselves a \u201c<\/em>Christian Band\u201d<\/em> to avoid limitations within a single scene, “so that we weren\u2019t pigeonholed to that scene alone,\u201d<\/em> Brown explained. Even so, the new album explores themes with weight and meaning, from reflections on divine judgment in \u201cBy Floods and Fire\u201d to the ruthless, pirate-themed intensity of \u201cNo Quarter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
