I\u2019ve often been very impressed by the quality of old-school death metal Rottweiler Records provides.\u00a0 But this album Lucifer Owns the Fence<\/em> in particular helps to build that quality even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First off, I was already familiar with Jordan Varela’s other project In-Conquered<\/strong>. So, from the beginning of track 1, you can immediately tell it’s him. It just jumps right out at you, followed by a different kind of death metal progression compared to In-Conquered. There’s not necessarily anything “blackened” about this, but it’s different in a GOOD way, to keep the energy going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can tell there were plenty of oldschool influences for this album. From the top of my head, I could think of the first albums of secular acts such as Morbid Angel and Deicide; but in terms of Christian artists, I can hear a bit of classic Living Sacrifice shredding riffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The energy remains consistent throughout the whole album; but some tracks are much shorter than others, so if you’re not paying close attention, you’re missin’ out! It’s like some killer grindcore you find; you like it, but at the same time it’s “blink-and-you-miss-it”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally, the end of the final track “Satan Will Kill You” is absolutely chilling. The non-music atmospheric screams sound like those moments from the old secular albums, but this in particular is different; the screams warn about the devil and how he can rip you from the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all, this album is a true must-have for OSDM listeners like myself. If Rottweiler can provide other great acts in this field like Crimson Thorn and Decayed Existence, the label may as well have done something undeniably incredible!
