Named after the beloved book series <em>The Chronicles of Narnia<\/em>, the seasoned Swedish power metal band returns with their latest full-length album, <em>X<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Narnia is known for their high-energy, dynamic melodies, and classical influences. Their rousing numbers mark them as a noteworthy band in the genre, and their newest album reinforces that reputation. Their tenth record opens with the number \u201cLike a Thief in the Night\u201d; punchy synths dance alongside noisome riffs that instantly draw the listener in. The hope-filled lyrics proclaim the return of Jesus Christ, encouraging the listener to turn up the volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Numbers like \u201cOceanwide\u201d and \u201cEvery Breath\u201d leave no doubt about what this album is about. The catchy choruses clearly point to God by stating who He is. Coupled with the praise-filled lyrics is proficient instrumentation. There is a thick flavor of fire in the zazzy synth work and tight, artful riffs. The dynamic layering of each instrument showcases the expertise and quality of each musician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cpump-up\u201d energy is felt on \u201cHeaven\u2019s Calling,\u201d with galloping guitars and an anthem-like vibe. The rousing roar of the riffs feeds into lyrics inspired by the books of Romans and Philippians, declaring, \u201cevery knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess.\u201d The versatile hooks and vibrant bottom end keep each piece feeling breezy yet weighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This album also scratches the classic \u201980s rock itch. \u201cWalk On Water\u201d and \u201cJerusalem\u201d both highlight synths, singsong choruses, and aggressive guitar work. Narnia knows how to nail an infectious melody that makes the listener want to headbang. \u201cGod Under Fire\u201d showcases the masterful maneuvers of guitarist Carl Johan Grimmark through hard-hitting yet intricate hooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tempo picks up on \u201cRemedy (SOS),\u201d helping the album feel well paced. There are more unhurried pieces alongside numbers that make you want to mosh. Props should be given to Grimmark for producing and mixing the album, along with Thomas \u201cPlec\u201d Johansson, who mastered the album. The big synths and bold vocals bring a smile to the listener\u2019s face with their happy-go-lucky tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last two songs on the record are rather unique. \u201cThe War That Tore the Land (Reprise)\u201d revisits a song from the band\u2019s 2019 album, <em>From Darkness to Light<\/em>. This short reiteration is an instrumental piece that reflects the same heartfelt emotions of thankfulness and praise captured in the original track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The album closes with \u201cThe Man from Nazareth Pt. II,\u201d which ties back to their 2006 album <em>Enter the Gate<\/em>. This continuation of a fan-favorite track features earnest vocals supported by piano, proclaiming the story of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in a powerful, ballad-like way. It serves as a strong ending, calling listeners to go and proclaim the good news.
