When I first discovered Decayed Existence, I honestly did not expect a whole lot. I was just scrolling through the Rottweiler Records Bandcamp to see what else they got. And when I played that song, that one song “Poetry Of The Dead”, I felt like I had opened the door to something I never realized was so brutally cool. I was blown away… literally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But to my surprise, both the band and these songs go much further back than that. This EP, titled “Eulogy”, was released by Rottweiler Records on March 23, 2018. But in truth, this material was first put out in 2005 under the title “Poetry Of The Dead” (other sources say “Human Debris”). Upon being signed to Rottweiler, the title and cover art of the band’s work-in-progress “Eulogy” was used for a remaster of the 2005 material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This material is incredibly intense for its time. It’s a kind of crushing death metal that you’d really only be able to hear from this EP. Complete with guitar riffs that feel like a brutal scrape across the flesh; occasional keyboard playing that adds a more cinematic or horrifying vibe to these songs; and those hard-hitting, skull-crushing drums that send those bone fragments flying everywhere. And with those drums also comes the deadly vocals that the band’s founding drummer\/vocalist Harry Rocco provides. All that together poses the question: how is it really this good even decades later? Well, that’s just the unique magic of Decayed Existence for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entire EP is a straight ten. It’s usually a good way to introduce new listeners to Decayed Existence, but don’t forget to look up their older material if you want a more chronological experience.
