Trytan, Genesis 2.0 \u2013 song review by Peter B. Emerson <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With updated sounds and a much tighter modern production, Lary Dean has breathed fresh life into the closing track of his 1987 album release of\u00a0Celestial Messenger<\/em>.\u00a0Much like the original, Genesis 2.0 opens with an augmented triad on a piano\/string voice before pulsating synths paint the scene of the void before God created the heavens and Earth. Dean adds some stellar guitar licks before the imposing voice of the narrator delivers the first three verses from the book of Genesis. Vocally, Dean seems to be firmly retaining his vibrancy from nearly 40 years ago.\u00a0\u00a0The song sits in the key of E flat minor, as does the original. This key signature suggests that the guitars were tuned down by a half step for ease of playing, but it also provides the keyboards with a favorable lay of the hand on the instrument. This is evidenced in the form of the expanded synth solo that is performed expertly by Lary\u2019s recording partner Eric Gillette (Neal Morse Band, Temic). Gillette also handles the drum parts, bass guitar, and mixed the release as well. Suffice it to say, the combination of Dean and Gillette revisiting this material, as Doug Van Pelt and Bob Hopkins stated in their 1987 interview spread in Heaven\u2019s Metal Magazine, Trytan will continue \u201cT<\/strong>o\u00a0R<\/strong>each\u00a0Y<\/strong>outh\u00a0T<\/strong>hrough\u00a0A<\/strong>lmighty\u00a0N<\/strong>azarene.\u201d\u00a0That is their goal. So, whether you were a fan of Trytan back in the day, or not, you won\u2019t be disappointed by this re-imagining of Genesis 2.0.
