Latter Day Exploits will release their new EP, Going Home<\/em>, on Friday, August 14 through The Charon Collective<\/a>, bringing together four tracks shaped by doom metal, spiritual struggle, political disillusionment, personal experience and the hope of redemption. The EP was mixed by Justin Murray<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the EP announcement, the band has revealed the cover artwork for Going Home<\/em>, created by Seth Metoyer. The imagery draws inspiration from the biblical story of the Prodigal Son, reflecting the EP\u2019s central themes of return, restoration and the Father\u2019s welcoming grace.

\u201cThrough Sleep\u201d: Sleep Paralysis and Spiritual Darkness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

That sense of unease runs deepest through \u201cThrough Sleep,\u201d a song inspired by Latter Day Exploits\u2019 Aaron Wilmot and his recurring experiences with sleep paralysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilmot recalls his first episode occurring in his mid-30s while taking an afternoon nap. Fully conscious yet unable to move, he experienced a sensation of falling through darkness, difficulty breathing and an awareness of people speaking nearby while his body remained locked in place. He says he has experienced similar episodes close to twenty times since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song channels that unsettling experience into a larger spiritual framework, exploring fear, vulnerability and what Wilmot describes as spiritual oppression while holding onto faith through the darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track\u2019s visual identity is tied to Henry Fuseli\u2019s 1781 painting The Nightmare<\/em>, a fitting reference for a song that dwells in the liminal space between sleep, terror and spiritual struggle. You can see the cover art when it releases in a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnvil of Humanity\u201d: Politics, Power and Disillusionment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnvil of Humanity\u201d shifts the EP into considerably more confrontational territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song reflects Wilmot\u2019s deep distrust of American political institutions, partisan allegiance and the machinery of war. His accompanying explanation rejects the familiar red-versus-blue divide and argues that political identity can become another system capable of consuming the individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilmot describes his own withdrawal from partisan politics and his belief that meaningful social change begins at the personal and spiritual level before moving outward into families, communities and government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That perspective gives the track its center of gravity. \u201cAnvil of Humanity\u201d becomes a rejection of ideological tribalism, with Wilmot calling for disagreement without dehumanization and placing Christian conversion at the root of genuine reform.
