{"id":2508,"date":"2020-09-30T22:03:49","date_gmt":"2020-09-30T22:03:49","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2021-03-08T21:33:37","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T21:33:37","slug":"attest-proceeding-the-path-of-forlorn-afflictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/index.php\/2020\/09\/30\/attest-proceeding-the-path-of-forlorn-afflictions\/","title":{"rendered":"ATTEST: Proceeding the Path of Forlorn Afflictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"align-center font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">This delightfully bleak EP was released late last year, but flew under the radar.\u00a0 For those who don\u2019t know, Attest is a side project of Abated Mass of Flesh member Zach Plunkett, and was released on his own Caustic Hymn Productions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Stylistically here we have a fusion of raw, bleak black metal with some atmospheric\/blackgaze elements.\u00a0 This is really interesting stuff.\u00a0 It\u2019s mid-paced to slower for black metal, but sorrowful and bleak as just about anything out there.\u00a0 It might appeal to fans of early Light Shall Prevail (before they morphed into Njiqahdda) or Anima Mortuum without the synths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Lyrics point to struggles with the flesh, doubt, and dark emotions, and while there are hints at faith, Proceeding offers no explicit statements.\u00a0 I\u2019d describe it as more questions than answers.\u00a0 Take lead track \u201cCrowding Within the Mind of Pale Aspirations\u201d for example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">\u201cThere is a hopeful intolerance<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">To keep me from the pain<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">That inflicts my purpose<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Every second is a subtle reminder<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Of the man I used to be<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Step by step<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Onward towards a new self<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">But damn this chain around my neck\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 15px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">The 5-song EP clocks in right around 22 minutes and is only available as a digital download directly from Caustic Hymn.
