{"id":3185,"date":"2018-06-14T03:32:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-14T03:32:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-11-20T03:21:33","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T03:21:33","slug":"jerusalem-warrior-legends-remastered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/14\/jerusalem-warrior-legends-remastered\/","title":{"rendered":"JERUSALEM: Warrior (Legends Remastered)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">We\u2019ve Evolved In A Very Strange Way\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Warrior<\/span>, Jerusalem\u2019s iconic 3rd release, remains probably the most celebrated of the Jerusalem studio albums \u2026 and for good reason. While I would argue all of the albums have an incredible impact, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Warrior<\/span> showcased a much more musically intricate and entrancing entity. The vocals\/lyrics had always been the emphasis of the music up to this time, but these songs transcended on an instrumental level as well. Oh the lyrics are plenty contagious and convicting, but there was this added element of performance that took the band to the next level. Ulf\u2019s vocals, Tibell\u2019s keys, Anderhell\u2019s drums \u2026 it was all more intense. Peter Carlsohn took over on bass and everything fell in place &#8211; the formula for breakthrough was immediately evident. The album now appears in its entirety on CD (the final track \u201cFarewell\u201d included now) as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boonesoverstock.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Retroactive Records<\/a> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Legends Remastered<\/span> series. Like the others in the series, the CD is packaged in a clear case jewel with 12 page booklet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">The opener \u201cConstantly Changing\u201d set the tone right from the start. One thing that was immediately apparent was that these guys were bringing the music to life with plenty of aggressive chops. Anderhell added a lot more flourishes on the snare and toms to lend a much more progressive vibe. How many songs can you count in the history of Christian hard music that speak so well to the process of sanctification?<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">The title track \u201cWarrior\u201d introduced us to a whole new Jerusalem \u2013 one we had hints of on songs like \u201cGethsemane\u201d and \u201cIntroduction\u201d from <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Volume 2<\/span>. There is all this dynamic contrast and the improvisational fills and experimentation on the drums and keys. This song builds in intensity right into the groove of the first verse where the message is delivered with clarity \u2013 \u201cI never dreamed I\u2019d be a fighter one day\/now I\u2019m enlisted in the heat of the fray\/entrenched on the front line, fighting for God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">The Clapton-esque \u201cPilgrim\u201d followed with a dreamy, swirling organ call to \u201clive as a Christian should live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">Are you mad? The quirky \u201cIt\u2019s Mad\u201d was a bit hard to swallow at first. The pop 80\u2019s new wavish synths and beats seemed a bit out of place on this 70\u2019s prog rock album, but with repeated listens the song speaks well to the insanity of God\u2019s plan to those who don\u2019t believe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">\u201cMan Of The World,\u201d what are you doing? <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">What are you doing?<\/span> This song is no less impactful in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">I need an album side to describe \u201cSodom.\u201d A twelve-minute song in Christian rock? Really? The keyboards and synths just added walls of credibility to the Jerusalem story \u2013 yes, Christians can be creative in rock music and play more than a 4 on floor verse, verse, chorus, verse song. This song was huge, and it\u2019s still huge! Not only did it contain all of the elements of 70\u2019s greats like Kansas, Queen, Genesis and Led Zep, but the lyrics remain timeless. It may have been more than 3 decades ago, but are these words not more even more true today than in 1981?<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"margin-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><span style=\"color: #666666;\">\u201cIf it\u2019s hard for you to believe it\/Just switch on your TV screen\/Reality looks like a nightmare\/This Sodom is more than a dream.\u201d \u2013 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #666666;\">\u201cSodom\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">I love how when the song hits the 7:30 mark you think it\u2019s done, but Ulf, like a prophet, takes the message home \u2013 \u201cFor the message we preach is diluted\u2026\u201d and then this outrageous Lynyrd Skynyrd guitar solo follows. It is all hammered home with the proclamations that we are all basically \u201cliving in Sodom.\u201d The anthem at the end the \u201cAmen\u201d icing on the cake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">Oh, but it\u2019s not over. \u201cAshes In Our Hand\u201d is the old-time Pentecostal worship blues rocker full of \u201chellfire and brimstone.\u201d Where is the big tent revival, brothers and sisters? \u201cThe future lies with Jesus\/Resting in his hand.\u201dAnd if that finale wasn\u2019t enough, \u201cFarewell\u201d closes things out with an epic ballad of hope and consolation. \u201cEven if friends, they let you down\/His love always remains\/Farewell, Farewell\/But, we\u2019ll meet again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span class=\"color_15\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The world is constantly changing, we are constantly changing, the music is constantly changing, but some things remain the same \u2013 Jerusalem and Jesus.
