They had all of the tools and stage presence of the likes of Bloodgood, Barren Cross and Stryper. They wrote great songs. They gave all the glory to God. But it wasn\u2019t meant to be. Fortunately, 30 years later, their voice (and their impact) will not be lost thanks to Bill Bafford (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.roxxproductions.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roxx Productions<\/a>) Jeff Lemas and Rob Colwell. Soldier gets the gold treatment with a 2CD\/DVD (fan must have) release of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Babylon<\/span> (1988) and <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Louder Than Hell<\/span> (1987) \u2026 plus much, much more. This stuff sounds great on CD, but the emphasis of my review is going to be the LP\/vinyl release of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Babylon<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"align-center font_8\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/d7ac5b_f110cab5191b4469a836ad5bcf15f453-mv2_d_1840_1800_s_2-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"469.5\" height=\"459\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The CDs<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">CD1 contains cleaned-up versions of their two releases plus the <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">California Metal II<\/span> songs \u201cBorderline\u201d and \u201cTears.\u201d All of these tracks sound great and no fan of the band will want to miss out on this set because it is all here in glorious fashion.&nbsp; CD2 has the 4 previously unreleased tracks from 1992 which feature a more bluesy, hard rock style (some of these songs kinda early 90\u2019s Bride meets Led Zep). \u201cWhen I Finally See Your Face\u201d is probably the song most resembling their 80\u2019s material. The live tracks from Riverside, CA (His Festival I \u2013 1987) nicely capture the band\u2019s stage presence and performance style \u2013 Jimmy Arceneaux had a way of just being really humble and transparent but yet could get the crowd going, and there is plenty of dialogue between songs, much of it addressing the \u201cMormon controversy.\u201d Finally, the unreleased song \u201cCall My Name\u201d (a nicely up-tempo rocker) \u2013 only ever performed live \u2013 has been included in this set.The booklet that comes with the 2CD is excellent, with some great liner notes and pictures, and includes a nice introductory word from Bill Bafford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Disc One<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Babylon<\/span> (1988)<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">1. Call My Name (Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">The DVD<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">The live DVD is pretty limited (in availability) so I am hesitant to say much here about it. For those who desire to score a copy, I have to say here that it is pretty raw footage with really harsh, treble-y sound quality, so don\u2019t expect much other than raw bootleg footage. It\u2019s nostalgic for sure (this is the way metal was back in the day) but I don\u2019t think it is something I will watch very often because the sound is so bad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Roxx Records Underground Series #10 (Vinyl)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">For me, though, the highlight of this set would have to be the vinyl LP of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Babylon<\/span>. The 10th release in this series (<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Roxx Records Underground Series<\/span>) it absolutely smokes! Dressed up in white vinyl (I\u2019ve always been a sucker for white vinyl since Stryper\u2019s <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Soldiers Under Command<\/span> way back when), and housed in the re-sealable vinyl poly with folded cover sleeve (lyrics and credits on back) this version is not only highly collectible (only 150 worldwide), but more importantly it is an absolute joy to hear these songs rendered in this format. Right from the start of \u201cLouder Than Hell\u201d you know it\u2019s going to be great because Marc Allyn\u2019s bass just jumps out of the speakers in \u201clouder than life\u201d fashion. The incredibly strong \u201cDeadly Weapons\u201d follows in similar fashion with plenty of low end bass drum punch evident in the mix. \u201cPriceless Heart\u201d is one of my favorite Soldier songs \u2013 just love the lyrics and these riffs and vocals are \u201cpriceless\u201d in this format. Side B features the powerful tunes \u201cBorderline\u201d and \u201cKing Of The City,\u201d probably one of the band\u2019s strongest songs. As to the ballad tracks, I prefer \u201cWhere Have All The Children Gone,\u201d but \u201cAngel\u201d sounds great here too. The album closes out with the brilliant \u201cPromises.\u201d The surface noise is minimal (although there are a few audible \u201cloud pops\u201d in the middle of a few tracks) and the disc feels like a 180gm weight record. This one comes well protected in a clear inner fold-over record sleeve, with the printed sleeve and an outer re-sealable polybag. If you love Christian melodic metal from the 80\u2019s you do NOT want to miss this collectible \u2013 it\u2019s one of the best sounding recordings I\u2019ve heard from the era on vinyl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"align-center font_8\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/heavensmetalmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/d7ac5b_e182096202364f82abcc50058113701e-mv2_d_3024_4032_s_4_2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"834.66\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Side A<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\">1.
