Were you lying? Listen to Dutch Black Metal project\u00a0<strong>Duister Maanlicht<\/strong>, who is releasing a new album\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Influisteringen van de Duivel&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>on October 22 2021 through Christian Metal Underground Records (Vision of God Records). This is the second release on that label and the 9th in it&#8217;s twenty years of existence. It&#8217;s raw. It&#8217;s got an almost punk edge. Check it out sonically. Then read the lyrics below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duister Maanlicht is a Dutch Black Metal band that was founded in 2000 by Anzorgheian. He recorded a lot of noise to which Havoque (Heidenland, Fluisterwoud et al.) added tortured guitar sounds. It became the atrocious debut \u201cAls Zwarte Engelen Sterven\u201d. Martelgang Magazine reviewed the album and gave it a 6 out of 10, purely based on it\u2019s value as a musical middelfinger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More noise followed in the Dutch Black Metal scene after the release of that album. Not just because the music was horrible, but especially because Duister Maanlicht identified as a Christian Black Metal band. That even members of \u201creal\u201d Black Metal bands collaborated with Duister Maanlicht was shocking and could of course not be tolerated. Duister Maanlicht was one of the causes for the establishment of the Dutch Black Metal Mafia, a group of purists that despised these developments within the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four releases in five years followed, all with different line-ups but made with the same sloppy attitude as before. Heer Zwaardvader (Verdelger, Borgazur) and Heidendoder did participate on all four albums. The lyrical content shifted from the apocalyps and the christian faith to more anti-pagan themes and imagery. Everything was published by SneeuwStorm Produkties, a label that was originally founded to act as a sort of collection box for Heidendoder\u2019s projects, but soon after released several compilations and albums of other bands such as Gaoth Anair (New Zealand) and Arch of Thorns (USA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the release of \u201cOver Ketters, Heksen en ander Gespuis\u201d in 2005 it became quiet around the once notorious and hated band. Nokternal Hemizphear (USA) obtained the rights of the label SneeuwStorm Produkties in 2007 and Duister Maanlicht recorded some songs in 2010 and 2011 that were released as the EP \u201cHoerenzonen &amp; Heksendochters\u201d, but after that it seemed the end of the line for the Dutch band. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet Heidendoder wanted to make an album that would transcend the title &#8220;pure musical waste&#8221; and could at least pass as a mediocre rehash of Darkthrone\u2019s \u201cTransilvanian Hunger\u201d and Heidenland\u2019s \u201cTriomftocht voor de glorie van Wodan\u201d. The album \u201cOver Zwarte Kunsten, Hekserij en andere Dienaren van het Kwaad\u201d was recorded during the Easter weekend of 2020. An ode to twenty years of history, its origin and its influences. The Extreme Metal podcast Terminus reviewed that album that was dubbed as \u201cTransilvanian Hunger-worship\u201d. \u201cDuister Maanlicht revives a largely forgotten version of the one-man kvlt aesthetic, his hyper-minimal two-riff structures conjuring the bleakness of a forlorn winter shore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duane Keith of the American label Vision of God Records heard the album and wanted to release it through the sub-label Christian Metal Underground Records. After some conversations, (after all, Duister Maanlicht is more of an anti-pagan than an evangelical Christian band),<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a contract for two albums was signed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInfluisteringen van de Duivel\u201d is the second and last Duister Maanlicht album that will be released through Christian Metal Underground Records. The evil that men do. Whether it is evil done in the name of God, or \u201cwhisperings of the devil\u201d, both taking ourselves out of the accountability. In a lot of cases mankind doesn\u2019t take responsibility. We have free will, and what do we do with it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lyrics itself take a delibirate grey approach. Evil measures taken against evil deeds. Do we indulge in that? Or did we do these deeds with pain in our hearts? Was and is it the right approach? The lesser evil. The record takes a dark, misanthropic view on mankind, that we have put ourselves in the center of the universe and this is what we have done with it. There is no humanistic progress in men. Besides that, we also have to know the dark history of christianity so we can deal with that. The corruption of power.
