News: No More Death – Brazil’s Next Thrash Revelation Has Arrived
THRASH OR BE THRASHED. DEATH IS DEAD.
It’s not every day a band steps out of the shadows and sounds similar to an unpolished, lost link between the glory days of Beneath the Remains and Practice What You Preach. Brazil’s No More Death is doing what they can to be that link.
Helmed by Tiago Torres—the founder, guitarist, and vocalist of the now-retired but respected Mad Dragzter—No More Death is more than a spiritual successor. It’s a full-on thrash metal resurrection. Armed with the fire of early Metallica, the fury of Slayer, and the DNA of Sepultura’s golden years, Torres and his new project deliver a bold debut that bangs heads and asks eternal questions.
Their debut, The Death is Dead, is an apocalyptic thrash opus drenched in breakneck riffs, pounding rhythms, and lyrics that crack open the mysteries of eternity. “Death is the most complex and haunting theme in human history,” Torres says. “Can we live forever? This record says not only yes—it shows how it’s already been done.”
Let that sink in. This is thrash theology, with resurrection in its lungs and eschatology in its fists.
Born from the Ashes
Torres had stepped away from the grind after Mad Dragzter’s final album in 2015, but the riffs never stopped. “I always knew I’d return,” he says. In 2024, he did just that—tracking every guitar, bass, and vocal himself, with longtime ally Demis Kohler behind the board, co-producing, engineering, and laying down the lead guitar solos like a man possessed.
The result is an album that sounds global, but bleeds Brazilian. This is no demo-in-a-garage. This is a top-tier production with all the crunch and clarity of modern metal, without losing the genre’s raw edge.
Riffs, Rage, and Resurrection
The Death is Dead is the first chapter in what Torres calls a larger conceptual arc. Think of it like the Book of Revelation rewritten by thrashers in denim vests. The themes—eternity, justice, hope, spiritual war—are carved into every groove and gallop.
Yes, it’s brutal. But it’s also hopeful, not something you always hear in thrash these days.
“I’ve been listening to thrash for nearly 40 years,” Torres says. “It’s in my DNA. Sepultura, Korzus, Ratos de Porão, Overdose… they all shaped us. But No More Death isn’t just homage. It’s the next evolution.”
For now, The Death is Dead is the bold first chapter in a saga that promises to unfold across multiple albums.
