Symphony of Heaven Return With ‘The Ballad of Nicolaus Farel’, New Single Arriving in September

Christian melodic blackened death metal outfit Symphony of Heaven are opening another chapter in their growing mythology with “The Ballad of Nicolaus Farel,” a new six-and-a-half-minute epic set for release on September 4.

The song marks Symphony of Heaven’s first new material since 2024’s Ordo Aurum Archeia and pushes deeper into the world of The Ordo Aurum, the fictional order that has become an increasingly important part of the band’s storytelling. This time, the focus falls on Grandmaster Nicolaus Farel, whose story provides the foundation for the new track.

Behold, I tell you a mystery; a story unknown by the masses, hidden by the shadows of time. In the annals of history, heroes are not born, they are forged. So tell me, have you heard the ballad of Nicolaus Farel?” – The Redactor

Musically, “The Ballad of Nicolaus Farel” finds Symphony of Heaven leaning hard into the collision of blackened extreme metal and early-2000s European melodic death metal, bringing together atmosphere, aggression, melody and the cinematic scope that has become central to the band’s sound.

For the new material, Symphony of Heaven worked with Jeremiah Scott of Southern Oracle Studio, known to Heaven’s Metal readers through his work with Demon Hunter, along with Willie Plischke of Bricktown Studios in Berlin, Germany.

The band remains completely independent as it moves toward a new full-length album, with its Patreon launching early access to the single on August 28 alongside behind-the-scenes material and other Symphony of Heaven content. The Patreon also serves as part of the band’s effort to build financial support for the forthcoming album.

The official single and music video arrive September 4, with an Extended Edition available through Bandcamp the same day. The Extended Edition will reach streaming platforms two weeks later on Friday, September 18.

Symphony of Heaven have long occupied their own corner of the growing Christian extreme metal underground, combining uncompromising heaviness with spiritual themes and increasingly ambitious conceptual storytelling. “The Ballad of Nicolaus Farel” carries that vision forward while signaling the beginning of something larger.

As Symphony of Heaven put it, “History is only the beginning, and the story of Nicolaus Farel has only just begun.”
