Interview: Don’t just drive thru…stay a while and meet – Drive Thru Society

By Stephanie Jordan, Heaven’s Metal Magazine

Fast food, fast fashion, fast lives…we live in a culture of everything fast and easy and replaceable. Taking a stand against this mindset is Drive Thru Society, who value getting into the slower rhythms of God, but that doesn’t stop them from playing fast beats, heavy rhythms, and powerful engaging lyrics. Did I mention they have a violin? Their website states that “their sound is characterized by a unique blend of symphonic strings, endlessly-singable melodies, and heavy guitar riffs. Stylistically, they are a mix of multiple musical subgenres, including hard rock, djent, melodic metalcore, and symphonic metal.”

Since they have two chicks in their line-up, Meg Hudson and Kathy Crabtree-Moore, I couldn’t help but get to know them a little bit and ask them a few questions. I found them on TikTok and heard just a few seconds of their music and immediately messaged them! The lyrics in the song Know You are incredibly passionate and heartbreaking. If you know anyone who has struggled with infertility, this song will give them a voice and make them feel seen. So many women deal with great internal shame and feel like their body is broken and has betrayed them when they cannot conceive. A conversation often overlooked and kept quiet, Drive Thru Society goes for the throat and bellows an anthem needed to mend wounds and hearts.

“Their single “Amnesty” (from their June 2016 debut EP Shadows Within) spent six weeks on the Billboard Christian Rock charts, followed by “Embers” (from their November 2016 sophomore EP release, Soteria), which charted for eleven weeks,” the website informs us. After this success they went on a hiatus and came back to kick some ass in 2025 adding violinist Kathy Crabtree-Moore, and guitarist Michael Moore. This album, Thresholds, has some strong songs that I hope will land them on the charts again. Hailing out of Denton, TX, you can find out where they are playing in the Lone Star state and other shows on their website.

I hope that you enjoy getting to know them a little better as well, and do not hesitate to check out these newly released songs linked below.

1) What is the name of the album?

The album is entitled “Thresholds.” It’s our first full-length release, and the first with our new members, Michael Moore (guitar) and Kathy Crabtree-Moore (violin). It was produced by Cory Brunnemann, who’s also worked with Zahna, Memory of a Melody, and Upon a Burning Body.

2) What inspired this album?

“Thresholds” is a concept album about real-life issues that affect families, such as domestic violence, dementia, infertility, anger, and addiction.

3) What do you hope fans will take away as they listen to the album?

Our goal as a band and with this album is to bring light to issues that are often only whispered about or considered shameful secrets. You may be part of a family who has desperately tried for years for a child, only to experience miscarriages and pain. We want you to know that you are not alone! God deeply cares for you, and so many families have been where you are. Or your beloved grandmother doesn’t recognize your family anymore. She is confused and angry, lashing out and grieving the loss of her memories and independence. In every circumstance, Deuteronomy 31:6 comforts us with this promise from God: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified… for the Lord our God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

4) Tell me about the songs you have released from the new album.

We released “Enemy” on July 18. It was written in the summer of 2020, when our nation was undergoing great turmoil. Families and friends were fracturing; truth was an ever-changing, personally-specific concept. Simply put, the devil was at work… and winning. Meg’s lyrics in the bridge are a pleading cry: “If we laid down our pride / To heal this great divide / We’d see the truth behind / The lies.” Here’s the truth: the enemy is not each other! It’s Satan. He’s the “father of lies;” a “thief [who] comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” Jesus, instead, offers truth and love: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd” (John 8:44; 10:10).

Our next single, “Know You,” released on September 9th. It came from Meg and Greg’s personal struggles while trying to conceive a child. They felt so helpless and alone during this time, as they were young and healthy, but nothing seemed to be working. Meg experienced a miscarriage and felt deep failure and shame – what was she doing wrong? The chorus lays bare how much pain and longing they were going through: “I wanna know what it feels like/ To tuck you in and say goodnight/ To tell you it’s all right/ I just want the chance to know you.” This song has a searingly-heavy, emotion-filled breakdown that never fails to make me tear up. I hope it helps people feel seen, comforted, and that God’s “peace surpasses all understanding,” even in the darkest, cloudiest times of life (Philippians 4:7).

5) Anything else you would like me to share and fans to know?

No matter how long you’ve been in the Christian rock and metal scene, we think you’re going to hear something new and exciting in Drive Thru Society’s latest music. We can’t wait to hear listeners’ thoughts and reactions! Thank you to Stephanie Jordan and Heaven’s Metal for featuring us!
