PROJECT 86: Release Drawing Black Lines Demo Tape and B-Sides

Remember the first time you heard Drawing Black Lines? They have released these 7 unearthed tracks, which are made available for the first time. CD comes with sticker and a glow in the dark pin.

It’s a limited edition of 500 copies.

Steve Dail, who remixed and remastered the demo songs, had this to say:

Demos:

Trying to unearth these demos was not easy. We searched everywhere we could think of, but they were nowhere to be found. We even paid to have some old A-DAT tapes transferred, but they were not the DBL demos we hoped they were. Finally, I tracked down Brian Tochilin—who owned the studio in Orange County (A Room Studios) where we recorded the demos—to see if there was any chance he had the tapes. Lucky for us, Brian archived everything he recorded from back in the day and was able to get me the multi-track sessions for me to re-mix and master. The demos were recorded in one day in June of 1999, and include demo versions of “Chapter 2,” “Set Me Up,” “One Armed Man,” and a song we completely forgot about that didn’t make the record called “Force Fed Lies.”

B-Sides:

After the initial release of DBL, our A&R at Atlantic, John Rubeli, wanted to re-release the record with some extra songs. At the same time, we had an opportunity to be on the soundtrack for the Mark Wahlberg movie Rock Star that was coming out at the time. We wrote three songs for the re-release/movie placement opportunity and recorded them with GGGarth in Vancouver, BC in December of 2000. One of the B-sides is an early version of “The Spyhunter,” the other two are an unreleased track and an early version of “Soma.” Needless to say, neither the re-release or the soundtrack ended up happening, but it’s cool to have these B-sides for release more than 20 years later.

Other random good news: “Untitled,” otherwise known as ‘Falling’ unofficially, is now finally available to purchase.

The band announced the release of four rare demos recorded in 1999 for the Drawing Black Lines album. This includes demo versions of “Chapter 2,” “Set Me Up,” “One Armed Man,” and an unreleased song titled “Force Fed Lies.” Tracks 1-4 we recorded by Brian Tochlin at A-Room Studios in Anaheim, California in 1999. They were mixed by S. Dail in 2022. Tracks 5-7 were produced by GGGarth, engineered and mixed by Andrew Wahl and recorded at Armoury Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 2000.

All songs were remixed and mastered for CD and digital release. Also included are the three Drawing Black Lines B-sides that have yet to be available on CD or digital release until now. All cds come with a glow in the dark button and sticker too.
