Review: Dehumanize – Unbridled Apathetic Torment
Of all the extreme music acts from Louisville, Kentucky, this one in particular stands out in its own way. It is known as Dehumanize, a two-piece brutal death metal act consisting of vocalist/drum programmer Eli Vincent and guitarist/bassist Anthony Leasgang (no longer part of the band as of early 2023). Their first act was a two-song demo released in October of 2015 to test the waters of their brutality. And they pulled it off all so well within the dark-sounding performance that unleashed a great taste of what they can do.
Dehumanize brought their brutality to the next level in their first EP, titled “Unbridled Apathetic Torment”, released May 13, 2016. To separate this from their prior demo, the suspenseful, almost-threatening guitar riffs are thicker, accompanied by steadier programmed drum patterns sounding like they are pounding upon a splattering mess of flesh. And throughout all the deadly chaos is Eli Vincent’s vocals, proving himself capable of producing such powerful growls and squeals, as Dehumanize is his debut into the extreme metal scene as a whole.
But Eli and Anthony did not savor this triumph alone. Track 2 “Pneumothorax” features guest vocals by Roberto Granados (Seraphim Defloration), with track 4 “Festering Intracranial Explosion” featuring vocals by Zack Glaeser (best known for his solo deathcore project Glae). Try to savor those performances as best as you can, the EP is only four tracks.
