News: Precious Death getting closer to crushing our skulls again
This just in from bassist Andy Koehler: “We have nine new tracks, all recorded already. The vocals are only done on three of them. We recorded with Josiah Prince from Disciple at his studio (The Ranch in Nashville).”
Apparently, this music is going to be heads and tails above the quality we heard last year from these guys online. That is say a lot when you consider the ferocious bite and humungous grooves of Southpaw and If You Must.
“Unlike the crappy Red Moon Rising demo we released last year … which I produced, and I am not a producer!” confesses Andy. “This one is properly done, and the mixing producer will also be top shelf like Josiah. The tracks are sick but no, we are still a month away from getting final mixes.”
Here are some great pictures and videos of the session with Josiah.

“I am not gonna be shy when I tell you it’s the best stuff we’ve ever done,” says Andy. “Chris will concur.”
QUOTES & COMMENTS:
Josiah Prince: “I am honored to be working with Precious Death on this project. I’m blown away at how these guys haven’t lost a step. They are picking up right where they left off with muscular riffs and powerhouse vocal performances. It’s been a blast for me to play this role and help it all come together. I think fans are in for a real treat.”
Chris: “Josiah is insanely good in the studio. He’s the most efficient producer we’ve ever worked with. It was amazing to see how quickly he got the best performances out of us in just the first two days.”
Andy: “We were super stoked at how the vocals tracks came out. Josiah is a maniac and we pretty much plan to finish the album at The Ranch. It’s not just the results, it’s the fun environment.”
Andy: “It’s all been hyped before: PD is working on new stuff, PD is releasing a rough mix of Red Moon Rising single, PD hopes to finish the album. But wow we are seriously close now. Thanks so much to our incredibly patient fans for hearing about this for probably 3 1/2 years now.
“Here’s where we are: all 9 songs have all of the instruments tracked. Vocals are fully tracked on 3 of them. Josiah is producing those and will be finished in about a month or so. At that point we’ll take a few weeks to mix those 3, then master them.
“We have a few labels talking to us, with some handshake offers already, but the idea is to finish the 3 songs first then shop all labels. After that fun process, go back in to do vocals on the other 6 and finish the whole thing up, with singles, videos, and album to follow. But who knows, we sure don’t. Maybe a label will want to instead do a 3-song EP. But our goal is to do shows here and there, so I’d love to have all of the new material out there.
“For the first 3 songs at least, it’s heavier stuff than we’ve done in the past, that doesn’t mean super drop tuning or blast beats, rather it just hits hard. But it’s absolutely Precious Death and fans will pick up on that instantly. Chris will always have his distinctive delivery and I’ll always make sure the groove matches the heaviness.”
Andy signs off on this report by reminding me of the time they spent the night at the Van Pelt house / Heaven’s Metal Magazine headquarters decades ago:
–Andrew R Koehler, PD bassist. And a guy who played basketball at the park in 1994 when visiting Doug’s house & then jumped in the community pool and IT WAS AS HOT AS BATH WATER. (That’s Texas in the summer, y’all).
