Review: Millennial Reign – I Am On the Rock (Single)
Power metal outfit Millennial Reign just dropped a new single last week, and it is an interesting one, in that it is a cover track. An ode to one of the bands that helped to break down many walls when it came to introducing rock and roll to the church crowd. Many bands have paid homage to Petra by covering their tunes, so it is not a total surprise.
Tribute to Petra is Beyond Belief
The song, I Am On the Rock is from Petra’s 1990 album, and still one of my personal favorites, Beyond Belief. Their rendition does not drastically stray from the original song feel and structure, and aside from a little of the band’s personal flair added in, it still holds pretty true to form with this classic rocker. A great tribute to a great, essential band to the Christian rock world.
An interesting side note worth mentioning is how, roughly a year and a half ago, the band also had the opportunity to perform on stage the 1982 classic Petra track Judas’ Kiss with none other than early Petra vocalist Greg X. Volz. Two Petra era events in a short period definitely shows the love for this classic, influential Christian band.
