News: Precious Death Returns with Blistering new track ‘Red Moon Rising’
Los Angeles, 1990s. If you were anywhere near the Sunset Strip when the scene was on fire, you probably heard the name Precious Death shouted across packed clubs and college radio waves. Dominating stages like the Whisky, The Roxy, Gazzarri’s, Madame Wong’s, and The Country Club, this ferocious five-piece earned a reputation for tight musicianship, soaring vocals, and mosh pits that left no one unscathed.
They weren’t just another band clawing for attention, they were critical darlings with serious chops. Their debut album Southpaw didn’t just turn heads; it won them two Los Angeles Music Awards and landed them on Billboard charts. Follow-up albums If You Must, PD3, Hardest Hits, and Oddballs and Endings solidified their legacy in Christian metal lore.
I was fortunate enough to lend some group vocals to the songs “Forcefed” and “King of Siam” on Southpaw, and looking back, those moments still feel surreal. Being part of that Southern California scene during one of the most infamous and electric eras in Christian metal history was more than just a chapter; it was a formative experience. The energy, the friendships, the music blasting from studios to packed clubs. It was a wild, unforgettable time, and I count those days among the best memories of my life.
Now, decades later, Precious Death isn’t just back, they’re ignited.
Enter the Red Moon.
The new single “Red Moon Rising” is a thunderous track pulled from the band’s upcoming dual-album project, Red Moon Rising: Part One and Part Two. it’s already generating serious buzz among longtime fans who wondered if PD could still bring the fire.
Spoiler alert: they can.
Produced by founding guitarist Andy Kohler, with powerhouse frontman Christopher Scott returning on vocals and lyrics, the new material feels like a natural continuation of their signature intensity, only sharper, darker, and more self-aware. Scott puts it plainly:
“We decided to light a fire… but we didn’t want to do anything if we could not make a serious artistic contribution. It needs to sound like PD. It needs to feel like PD. If it’s not the best album we’ve ever done there’s no reason to do it. We could just rest on our laurels. So if we’re coming… we’re coming dangerous.”
Mission accomplished.
Fans can hear the first strike of that fire now. “Red Moon Rising” is available via pay-what-you-want digital download here.
After years of silence, Precious Death isn’t just resurrected, they’re reminding us why they mattered in the first place.
