News: rebornwithfire Unleashes Debut EP The Gospel
Former Mana Recording Studios producer Brian Elliott returns to extreme music with a five-track declaration of faith, brokenness and redemption.
After years away from the music industry, producer, engineer and pastor Brian Elliott has returned to extreme metal with rebornwithfire, a new project that approaches worship through dissonance, chaos and crushing heaviness.
The project’s debut EP, The Gospel, arrives as a five-track journey through humanity’s fractured condition and the Christian message of redemption. Elliott describes the music as “dissonant and chaotic, but at times somber and melodic,” with the record intentionally confronting human brokenness while proclaiming the hope of the Gospel.
In other words, this is worship music with considerably sharper teeth.
Elliott spent approximately a decade working as a producer, mixer and engineer out of Erik Rutan’s Mana Recording Studios, a name deeply woven into the history of modern extreme metal. He later stepped away from the music industry and entered pastoral ministry. Years removed from professional studio life, Elliott eventually found himself drawn back to heavy music with a different reason for creating it.
rebornwithfire became that return.
Rather than separating extreme metal from worship, Elliott built the project around the idea that the vocabulary of aggressive music could carry explicitly devotional material. The Gospel moves through bleakness, lament, theological reflection and redemption while keeping its spiritual purpose squarely in view.
Elliott handles vocals, guitars, bass, drum sequencing and programming across the EP, in addition to recording, producing, engineering, mixing and mastering the release himself. He also created the artwork and design.
His wife, Marianne Elliott, who serves as a worship leader at their church, appears on several tracks. She contributes additional vocals to “The Redemption” and acoustic guitar to “The Tears of Eden” and the title track, “The Gospel.” Brian and Marianne co-wrote “The Tears of Eden,” while Brian wrote the remaining music and lyrics.
