Feature: April is For Grind – Jason McLaren’s Monthly Playlist

Every once in a while I break out this uneven but entertaining mega-compilation of grindcore acts that range from excellent to completely unlistenable. Play it on random for greater enjoyment.

Fire Throne – Day of Darkness…and Blackness

This one could be my personal favourite unblack metal of all time. The reissue from now-defunct label Nokturnal Hemizphear is worth every penny, and includes the absurdly raw 2004 demo on it as well.

Eternal Mystery – The Coming Armageddon Holocaust

This band’s grown on me as of late. Demo-level grind from one of the more prolific Christian grind acts of the 2000’s.

Carkemis – Morte E Nada Mais

Ultra-raw grindcore in desperate need of even just a touch of production, but interesting as it is. Crazy underground stuff.

Various artists – 4-Way Grind Split

I LOVE compilations like this. Not sure why a brutal deathcore band like Eternal After Death was included on a grindcore compilation, but the whole disc is absolutely fantastic. Worth it for the Timoratus tracks alone.

Vomitorial Corpulence – Skin Stripper

Pure early Carcass worship here, but with better production than that band had with their debut. Still the ultimate Christian grind classic in many ways.

Eternal Mystery – The Ultimate Death Sentence

Down to being a solo project + guest appearances, Eternal Mystery’s third album makes up in riffs for what it lacks in vocal production.

Krig – Bite My Byte

Proggy tech-death with a touch of deathcore that completely rips apart our “connected” online world and the corporations behind it.

Deuteronomium – Tribal Eagle

Classic EP from Finnish melodeath masters.

Various Artists – The Slaughtered Lamb Split
