Review: The Right Wing Conspiracy – Give War A Chance
Even though this band is no longer active, they are one of the main artists that got me into grindcore.
The Right Wing Conspiracy was one of the bands from the Christian underground extreme metal scene that further introduced me to the grindcore genre. The project consisted of Puerto Rico musicians Rafael Ortiz and Luis Vasquez, who had prior experience of playing grindcore back in the 90s with their previous band Zadok. Returning to the scene with their next project The Right Wing Conspiracy, their newer take on grind was relentless, unhinged, and with no punches pulled whatsoever.
Their first album “Give War A Chance” was released independently on August 7, 2007. The album addresses the issues of false preachers, dictators, and war, as well as unfiltered takes on separating man from sin, homophobia, and sinning in anger. Grindcore has often steered towards politics and the issues of just trying to live in a strange, messed-up world; yet these guys throw Christianity into the mix in a way that makes it more balanced.
Music-wise, The Right Wing Conspiracy introduced a sound that blasts through your eardrums at first listen. Dark yet catchy guitar riffs, accompanied by hard-hitting drum programming, and deadly high-pitched growls (with some hardcore yells here and there) all seemed to have been mastered so well to produce a proper thickness to it. It was perhaps a game-changer for the scene. With that, it was the band’s perfect debut.
