ALTARHEART: Released New EP
Christian metal duo Altarheart has just released a new 6-song EP “Creatures Here Below.”
Inspired and disheartened by current world events, frontman Anthony Thomas says the EP covers his frustrations as a Christian navigating modern tension.
“I wrote the songs of Creatures Here Below in a spirit of lamentation, frustrated with the world around us, the church, myself and people I hold dear. What started as a one-off song (the title track) extended to 3, then to 6, as I decided to flesh out a story. It takes you from good intentions to bad practice to resolution and ultimately to Jesus,” Thomas said.
The band gained momentum for the release with two singles, “Malice” and “Save Our Souls.” Those songs tackle conflict, while the remainder of the EP takes listeners on a journey back to God.
“My goal when writing lyrics is to have resolution. It may not happen at the end of every song, but I order tracks in albums in a way that ends in a more peaceful place than where they began,” Thomas said.
Thomas says he drew inspiration for the EP title from the Doxology, which his church regularly sings concluding each service. Pay close attention to the end of the song “Scattered Sheep” for more on that.
“I love the harmony of believers singing as one voice to our Father. This EP’s songs long for that, while confronting what often separates us from each other. This polarizing political year has been heartbreaking to say the least. It was therapeutic to use this music as a plea to God,” Thomas said.
