PRIMAL: Humachine

Glenn Rogers is back with a vengeance! The sophomore release of Primal entitled Humachine, out now on No Life Till Metal Records, is a powerhouse of metal/thrash metal. Featuring the vocals of Alberto Zamarbide, the crushing drums of Jorge Iacobellis and blasting bass work of Cesar Ceregatti.

The pedigree of bands these four men respresent is quite extensive and pretty amazing.  Acts such as Deliverance, Vengeance, Hirax, Steel Vengeance, Logos, V8, Viking, Deathriders, Bloodlust. A super group? Of sorts perhaps.

The songs are strong, powerful and will definitely get the hair flying. Whether it’s the opening track ‘The Cage’ which is a bruiser that any Deliverance fan will love. The riff launches into high gear and is a neck breaker. Perhaps it’s the track ‘Betrayal’ which explodes into a pile driving fury before settling into a scorching verse and chorus. The title track Humachine has a powerful chorus with a slightly reminscient Slayer opening riff.  A strong hook this track has and memorable melody. Or album closer ‘Ever’ which has that slow picked intro which eventually builds into one powerhouse of a song.

Yes there is melody amongst the cacophony of heavy metal carnage. One of the trademarks of Glenn Rogers material is the melody he brings.  One of the reasons He has remained a constant whichever band he may be in. The lead work is brings is always a highlight and a reason itself not to miss this album.

Lyrically this album tackles many different area’s of society. The glorification of war ‘Ever’ the craziness of societal pressures ‘Humachine’ and ‘The Cage’. Media chaos ‘Betrayal’ and not to be forgotten the call for the one to bring us out and give us meaning ‘Savior’.  This is just a sampling of what you’ll find within.  It’s not an evangelical release but any fan of heavy metal will find something here to dig into.

The production elements are strong. Poweful drums with crisp deep bass lines provided by Iacobellis and Ceregatti.  Zamarbide delivers a strong vocal which to these ears reminds me of Lemmy from Motorhead. Now hear me before you say, “YOU’RE NUTS!!” just hear me. If Lemmy sang CLEAN that is.  I played some Primal and then backed it with some Motorhead and the tonality is just too close.  Again he just reminds me of it, more than a little bit.

Elements of Metal Church, Metallica, Slayer are sprinkled throughout, influences nothing more.

A solid Metal album that if you want something heavy but not the cement mixer level you MUST check this out. Humachine from Primal is one of the prime releases of 2023. Don’t be caught without it!
