Have you ever wondered what lurks beneath the surface of our everyday lives? Uzziel takes you on a wild ride with their latest single, Like A God. This Austrian thrash and groove metal band digs deep into the hidden complexities of the human psyche, exposing the dark secrets that even the friendliest faces might hide.

The depths of the human psyche are unfathomable and often remain hidden. The friendly neighbor next door, the banker, or the insurance broker—all of them could harbor dark secrets. This very theme is addressed by “Like A God,” the new single by the Austrian thrash and groove metal band UZZIEL.

Like A God,” which will be released on March 28, 2025, via NRT-Records, shines a light on the abyss of a sexualized power complex while deliberately leaving its interpretation open. Although the music delves into dark human depths, the accompanying music video shows a different side of the band: an energetic tour video offering insights into UZZIEL’s day-to-day life—from onstage to behind the scenes. With this new recording, UZZIEL consistently continue along their musical path. Following “Captured By Emptiness,” “Like A God” marks another step in the band’s current work. Since 2011, the band has secured a firm place in the Austrian and German metal scene, which they now revisit with their reworked song material. The last two years have been eventful for the Austrian metal band UZZIEL.

While tirelessly reworking their back catalog in the studio and giving it a new mix, they captivated audiences at several live events. UZZIEL performed, among other shows, at the Blutfest by Debauchery in Vienna, appeared at the Area 53 Festival in Leoben in the summer of 2023, and played at the Kaltenbach Open Air in August of the same year before returning to the studio. The first result of these sessions was presented to the public on February 9, 2024, with the revamped single “Captured By Emptiness,” both in audio and video form.

The origin story of the metal band UZZIEL is closely tied to Micheldorf near Wels in Upper Austria. It was there in 2010 that frontman Mexx Uzziel and guitarist Jürgen “Hati” Hartwagner decided to open a new chapter in the world of thrash metal. Their musical rise began tentatively, then gained momentum, culminating in a series of demo albums and remarkable festival appearances. Among these were concerts at the renowned Kaltenbach Open Air and the Austrian Hellfest, which brought the band recognition within the scene.Even with their first demo “Broken,” released in 2011, they demonstrated their musical strength and versatility. The name UZZIEL, which in Hebrew means “God is my strength,” is not only a symbol of the band’s musical power but is also associated with the biblical figure Uzziel, Moses’s uncle, who according to the Bible and the Torah was commissioned by God to free the Jewish people from Egyptian slavery.

With their 2015 album “Torn Apart,” UZZIEL secured a solid footing in the German-speaking metal scene. The album is characterized by a fascinating fusion of dark thrash metal and groove metal with nu-metal elements, making their sound unique and unmistakable. UZZIEL have thus proven that they are far more than just another metal band; they always strive to push the boundaries of the genre, providing the perfect listening experience for fans of acts like Pro-Pain, Enemy Inside, or Brimstone. In 2019, UZZIEL released their second full-length album “This Fear” in collaboration with SAOL. Tracks such as “This Fear” or concerts with acts like Sepultura in Wels, Debauchery, or Eisregen at the Winter Metal Storm were well-received by the metal scene and brought UZZIEL greater attention beyond their country’s borders.

The German independent label NRT-Records also took note of UZZIEL’s powerful blend of thrash, groove, and nu metal, leading the band to sign a long-term record deal with NRT-Records in 2022. UZZIEL then performed at the Area 53 Festival and decided on a fresh start, removing their original albums from stores in order to re-release them with a new sound and mix via NRT-Records in the coming years. In the meantime, Jürgen Hartwagner left the band. Without him, UZZIEL performed once again at the Kaltenbach Open Air on August 17, 2023, followed by more concerts by and with UZZIEL. They appeared at the 10th Anniversary Festival of the Metal-Outbreak series and were invited on October 15, 2023, to contribute to Debauchery’s anniversary show in Vienna.

The year 2024 marked a new beginning for UZZIEL. With the re-release of “Captured By Emptiness,” the Upper Austrians celebrated their label debut with NRT-Records and simultaneously presented a revised version of the original 2011 music video. The remastering was personally handled by NRT-Records founder Philipp Gottfried. Released on February 9, 2024, it cast UZZIEL in a new light and powerfully united elements of thrash metal, dark metal, groove metal, and nu metal. It represented the first step on a new path that will lead to the re-release of their remastered back catalog and ultimately to their third studio album.Shortly after the release of “Captured By Emptiness,” UZZIEL made several live appearances. On June 28, 2024, they performed with Elephants In Paradise and Crowheart at the legendary Club WakUum, took the stage at the Metal Outbreak Festival in Linz in November of the same year, and kicked off 2025 with a concert at Replugged in Vienna on January 11, sharing the stage with the cyber-tech metallers Pulse, among others. On February 14, UZZIEL played in Amberg (Bavaria) together with the heavy metallers from Reaper’s Revenge, presenting their new single “Like A God” in its latest version live for the first time. On April 12, they will be a mainstay of the Stormrage Festival.

With the release of “Like A God” on March 28, 2025, UZZIEL further fuel anticipation for these upcoming concerts.
